Five Essential Digital Photo Photography Tips

Although capturing that perfect picture isn't as hard as it once was, having a few tips in your arsenal certainly helps to capture the moment. And with hundreds of cameras to choose from, and all the features that digital cameras have, it doesn't take much to snap a shot. But when you're able to manually adjust settings like aperture and shutter speed settings, you're able to control the shot even further. This proves especially true if you own a SLR digital camera. Digital photo photography has certainly surpassed traditional cameras, but here are a few tips to help you maximize your picture taking with your digital camera.
Next, if you must take pictures from far away, be sure to anticipate where your subject is moving to. Being aware of where your subject is moving towards helps you capture swift movements that otherwise couldn't be caught. If you need to zoom in, zoom while keeping the focus on the middle of the shot.
Thirdly, think about your lighting. If you're outside, your lighting becomes very dynamic. Be aware of any shadows that may be cast onto your subject. In a perfect world, lighting would be a constant, but there's a constant battle between too much light, which in turn washes out your subject while too low of lighting dims your subject. So, the key is to use a flash indoors and out. Using flash is imperative indoors, but also can be used outdoors to help get rid of any shadows, especially when you're taking a shot up close.
Fourthly is to make sure you're locking in on your subject. It's a fine balance between focusing on your surroundings, but still keeping a watchful eye on your subject when that perfect picture comes. When it comes to taking shots, close shots are more effective, since you can capture any emotions and details that otherwise wouldn't be seen, had you been far away.
But remember, in the end, a digital camera is simply a tool. Depending on how you use the tool controls the artistic turnout of the picture. You have to have the foresight to picture the end result of the picture, and in the moment, only experience will be your best asset. Capturing a shot of a person at that perfect moment when your subject with his eyes open, radiant smile, and lighting perfect takes precision timing.
But the beauty of digital photography is that it's very cheap to take shot after shot and refine your skills. Start taking pictures of everything. Different subjects, different lighting, indoors and out. Go to events and try to capture the action of things going on.
And don't be afraid to try new things with your digital camera. It's about techniques and tricks, but in the end, it's about having fun capturing the excitement of life around us. The more you develop your trade, the more you can look forward to picture perfect pictures.
