Capturing that perfect picture isn't as hard as it once was, but having a few tips in your back pocket helps ensure you're able to capture that perfect moment. And with the hundreds of different kinds of cameras to choose from, and all the features that are available, it doesn't take a whole lot to learn basic digital photo photography.
But when you are able to manually adjust things like aperture and shutter speed settings you're then able to control the shot even more. This is especially true if you own a digital SLR camera. Digital photo photography has surpassed the old school cameras, however here are a few things to help you make the most of your picture taking with your digital camera.
Secondly, if you absolutely have to take pictures from a far away distance, be sure to predict where your subject might end up when you snap your shot. Capturing swift movements is especially difficult if you don't predict potential movements. If you have to zoom in, do so while keeping a keen focus on the middle of the shot.
Next, carefully think about your lighting. If you're outdoors, the lighting suddenly becomes very dynamic. Always be aware that shadows are being cast, whether or your subject or not. In an ideal world, lighting would a constant force, but since there's a never ending battle between too much light and not enough, the key is using a flash. It doesn't matter if your inside or out, using a flash is absolutely imperative, especially indoors, but even outdoor flash can help to rid pictures of shadows, especially if your shot ends up being up close and personal.
Next, always make sure to lock in onto your subject. There's a fine line between focusing on your environment, but yet still keeping an eye on your subject matter once the perfect picture comes along. As far as shots are concerned, close shots are always more effective and dramatic, since you're able to capture emotion and details otherwise lost had you taken the shot far away.
In the end, a digital camera is simply a tool. It's up to you to use the tool to craft the artistic qualities of the pictures you take. You need to have the end in mind when taking pictures, and in the moment, you'll find that experience is the only thing that determines good pictures from great. Capturing the perfect shot with a big smile, eyes open and perfect lighting conditions requires patience and very accurate timing.
The beauty of digital photography is the fact that it's very cheap to simply take hundreds of shots to refine and hone your skills. Why not just start taking pictures of everything; different subjects, different lighting, indoors, outdoors.
Why not experiment and try new things. Don't be afraid of experimenting, since you really can't break anything. In the end, it's not about tricks or tips, it's about enjoying life and capturing the excitement of the world around us. The more time you spend on crafting your skill, the more you can have the confidence to know that "in the moment" you'll be able to capture that perfect picture.
